The Upward Spiral for Managing Stress – Short Course

Feeling stressed or overwhelmed?

Neuroscience can help!

Tired of stress holding you back from being happier and more productive? Understanding neuroscience can give you the tools to help tune your brain for optimal performance.

I created this course specifically for this crazy moment in time. A world-wide pandemic! Political instability! And your spouse just finished the ice cream! (Just because the world is falling apart and you’re overwhelmed by stress doesn’t mean you can’t laugh about it).

You’ve probably already heard about the power of positive thinking, and being mindful, and exercise, and eating right, and a hundred other things you’re supposed to be doing for your wellbeing … and it’s making you stressed-out! That’s because none of the gurus you’ve heard or the books you’ve read have taken the time to explain what’s happening in your brain that makes you feel stuck in the first place.

Put the power of neuroscience to work for you.

Recent discoveries in neuroscience have shown that it’s possible to alter your brain activity and chemistry through specific small changes in your thoughts, actions, interactions, and environment. But who has time to read all the scientific literature and translate it into actionable steps? I do! And I want to teach you all this amazing science.

The Upward Spiral for Managing Stress

A short course in using neuroscience to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing

$79

I’ve taught thousands of people about The Upward Spiral to help them …

  • -Feel calmer and happier
  • -Find greater fulfillment
  • -Build mental and emotional resilience
  • -Understand themselves better

My first book, The Upward Spiral came out in 2015, and has since sold over 100,000 copies, and been translated into 10 languages. But I wanted to have an even larger impact.

So I’ve given keynote lectures to large audience, and also coached individual clients to apply The Upward Spiral to their lives. I’ve traveled around the country leading workshops for mental-health professionals to help them use The Upward Spiral for their clients. And I created a hugely-popular course at UCLA to teach college students about how their brain works, and how to use that information to achieve greater productivity and wellbeing. And now I’m sharing a selection of the most important lessons in a practical and easily accessible short course: The Upward Spiral for Managing Stress.

The Upward Spiral for Managing Stress will teach you all the basics …

This course contains three video lessons explaining key aspects of neuroscience and stress and how to apply them to your life. The lessons are each about 45 minutes long, and are engaging, easy to understand, and grounded in scientific research. Most importantly the lessons contain a ton of practical steps you can take to better manage the stress in your life.

  • Learn about the neuroscience of stress in an engaging and easy-to-understand way
  • Understand the 3 Cs of stress: controllability, certainty, and consequences
  • Explore simple strategies for managing and reducing stress
  • Discover how to enhance gratitude and increase positive emotions

Here’s how it all breaks down…

Lesson 1 – Getting Stress Under Control

Understand the neuroscience basics of stress. You’ll learn what stress actually is from a scientific perspective. We’ll cover the two complementary parts of the autonomic nervous system: the fight-or-flight response and the rest-and-digest response. You’ll discover how the specific things you pay attention to have a dramatic effect on your experience of stress. You’ll also learn several simple strategies for managing your stress that you can put into practice right away!

Lesson 2 – The Importance of Certainty and Consequences

Discover the 3 big steps you can take to increase resilience in the face of stress. You’ll learn about the brain circuits that contribute to stress, and how you can take small steps to actually change the activity and chemistry of your brain. We’ll explore the counterintuitive idea of how it can actually be good to focus on the worst-case scenario. And we’ll cover how your values actually keep your brain from being overwhelmed by stress.

Lesson 3 – The Power of Gratitude

Learn the value of saying “thanks.” There’s more to happiness and wellbeing than just managing stress. Practicing gratitude can increase your positive emotions and give you a whole new outlook on life. You’ll learn how gratitude increases in serotonin and activates key emotional circuits. Practicing gratitude has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mood, sleep and even social relationships.

But wait there’s more!

Forgive the cheesiness, but to help you retain the information and better apply it to your life, I’m including some powerful bonuses!:

F.A.Q.

Will there be too much neuroscience for me to understand?

No. There definitely will be some neuroscience, but my goal is to simplify it all down for anyone to understand and put into practice. And all the recommendations are grounded in neuroscience and backed by scientific research. However, if you’re not interested in the brain at all, then maybe this isn’t the right course for you.

What if I don’t like the course?

We have a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try the program risk-free. If you’re not fully satisfied you’re eligible for a full refund.

I’m not sure if the course is right for me.

First of all, that’s not a question, but I get your drift. This course is for intelligent (skeptical) people who want to be calmer and happier, but don’t want to put their faith in some “happiness” expert or guru. I’m not a guru; I’m a neuroscientist. This is not about faith or one person’s experience. This is about using science to reduce stress and improve your happiness and wellbeing.

Is this course for coaches or therapists?

No, and yes. It was not primarily developed for coaches or therapists, but they can get a lot out of it. If that is your role, the course will give you some helpful strategies to provide to your clients to better manage stress. It will also help you gain an understanding of the neuroscience of stress, which you can also pass on to your clients. However, if you really want to understand The Upward Spiral from a therapeutic perspective, I’ve got a better option for you (and you can even get CE credits).
